New Commerce High School

I’ll be glad when the new Commerce High School is completed. It will be a good thing for the students, staff, and community. And I won’t have to hear about East Jackson’s “nice new school” so much (it is truly a nice campus though). The new gym will be a great advantage over the archaic one that has been there since Napoleon was taking over the world. Hopefully it will improve the basketball program just by offering a better setting.
With the wrestling program on the rise I look for a more rounded athletic program in the years to come. Football will always be king here in Commerce so no need to worry about that.

Slab poured, steel going up on new gym – CommerceNewsTODAY

It sucks to be without a home gym for a while (maybe 2 seasons) but in the end I think it will be worth it to have a modern facility. I’ve been to ones with balcony viewing and they are nice. The basketball team being on the road all the time is hard on them as well as the parents and fans having to drive further to each game. The benefit will not be seen by these kids currently JRs and SRs but the classes that follow them will enjoy the new gym for decades. Not to be overlooked is the fact that new restrooms for football fans is part of this project. I know it will be tough to give up the dungeon like bathrooms we had but we will make it. :)
