Wesleyan Rolls up ECI

It was a shock to me that defending champions ECI were beaten so handily by the Wolves of Wesleyan. The Bulldogs’ defense was unable to do anything to stop Wesleyan’s offense, especially #24  Kyle Karempelis, who had his way all game long. Future UGA baller. Washaun Ealey was slowed with some ankle & back problems but still was a factor. Once ECI ws behind they had to throw more than they wanted so it was an uphill battle. The Wolves defense shut the Bulldogs’ run game down. The option was defended to perfection each time it was tried. Congratulations to Wesleyan for winning it all. It ain’t easy. Winning two titles in a row ain’t easy either, even with a standout like Ealey. Good luck to him in college. A short clip of the game was all I could find. GHSA Football Championships Set

8A will be represented in the Georgia Dome next Saturday when Wesleyan plays defes ECI. The Wolves will have to slow down Washaun Ealey (ECI Highlights) to have a shot but I look for ECI to repeat. The Bulldogs have not dominated quite like last year but still have shown their toughness in getting through the playoffs and back to the Title game. ECI got by Wilkinsin Co 15-7 & Wesleyan beat Lincoln County 20-12. I know I was heartbroken that the Red Devils did not make it to the Title game for the 500th time in history. A lot of other fans were sad about Lincoln County being knocked out of the playoffs so I listed them below.

Single A Final Four

Looks like there are four survivors from single A. What used to be the teams going to the Dome are now just semifinals played at one team’s home field. The defending champs, ECI, will play Wilkinson Co, who beat Commerce in round one. The team from Lincolnton will play Wesleyan from 8A. I look for ECI to return to the Title Game versus the team from Lincolnton. Although I think Wesleyan has a better shot since the semis will not be in the Dome. Even at Lincolnton (home site not determined yet), the Wolves have a better chance than at the Dome which is more comfortable for the team from Lincolnton.
